Welcome to Scott Air Force Base

The Scott AFB is a United States Air Force Base located in Belleville Illinois. It is situated 20 miles east of St. Louis. Scott AFB's main operations involve managing a national aeromedical evacuation system, providing preliminary requirement training for C-9 pilots, and leading and managing all operational airlift support within the United States.
Scott AFB is also home to a Reserve airlift wing and 5 headquarters. Additionally, there are numerous tenant units, some supporting the base directly, and others executing their own missions while utilizing the Scott AFB facilities. The area that now is home to Scott AFB was chosen to be Midwest training base and "flying field" during the First World War (April of 1917).
The site was named 'Scott Field' after Corporal Frank S. Scott who was the first enlisted airman killed in an aviation crash.
Corporal Scott's first flight take place on September 2, 1917, in a Standard Trainer biplane. In 1918, the base designed two air ambulances by transforming a Jenny aircraft to transport wounded servicemen. These were the beginnings of aero medical evacuation which would later turn into a central role for the Scott AFB. Scott Field first held its open house on August 17, 1918. Scott AFB has been headquarters for numerous commands. The U.S. Air Mobility Command and the United States Transportation Command are stationed at Scott AFB.
